Marcus Rashford left Ruben Amorim and Manchester United to join Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season

Marcus Rashford is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Marcus Rashford’s best option is to leave Manchester United this summer after scathing criticism of Ruben Amorim and his handling of the Reds attacker.

Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan from Old Trafford in January and has since impressed with nine goal contributions. The latest of those came last night, when Unai Emery selected him to lead line in the club’s narrow Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 27-year-old found himself exiled by Amorim before leaving United in the January transfer window and Murphy believes the new Portuguese head coach is to blame for not getting the best out of Rashford.

“As far as I’m concerned if you take away what he earns and I’m Ruben Amorim coming through the door and looking at what I’ve got, Ruben Amorim should be able to get out of Rashford what Emery is getting out of him,” the ex-Liverpool man told talkSPORT.

“You can’t compare the level of performance because at Villa he’s playing with better players in a better-organised team, so he’s going to look better.

“But, the physical output of Rashford at Villa is chalk and cheese to the output at Man United. A manager worth his salt would get Rashford playing, even in a poorer side.”

Amorim has been left with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as options up front after allowing the England international to play his football elsewhere. The striker duo have only scored 15 goals between themselves this term, despite costing United over £100million for their services

Murphy added: “Look, I might be being harsh on Amorim because he might have been dictated to by the hierarchy but the reality is when you walk into a squad of players the first job is to protect yourself and get some results.

“When you look at Man United’s front line, Rashford is better than what they’ve got.”

And knowing that Villa’s on-loan attacker will be looking back down the Premier League table at his boyhood club having once again tasted elite European football, Murphy concluded: “I still think it’s better for Rashford to leave Man United, by the way.”
