You fans admitted that they couldn’t ‘handle’ the final batch of episodes as the fifth and final season of the TV show dropped on Netflix.

Based on the the novel by Caroline Kepes, the psychological thriller began its life airing on US TV channel Lifetime in 2018.

The series follows Joe Goldberg, played by Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, as he attempts to hide his psychotic ways after falling in love.

Netflix began broadcasting the programme globally from its second season, after it didn’t get high viewership during its brief stint on Lifetime.

Quickly exploding in popularity, fans have been obsessed for years with Joe getting himself out of trouble as his body count continued to build.

Sadly all good things must come to and end, with the final ten episodes of You dropping on Netflix on Thursday morning (April 24).

Heading into the season, fans knew that Joe would be back in New York with his wife Kate, who managed to convince the public that he was the perfect husband.

With Kate becoming CEO of the Lockwood Corporation, Joe had plenty of free time to get up to more bad behaviour while being haunted by his past.

Early on in the season, Joe meets Bronte, an aspiring writer who he quickly falls for in spite of almost being cleared of his wrongdoings.

Played by Madeline Brewer, Joe learns in episode six that Bronte is actually Louise Flannery, whose mentor was Beck, Joe’s girlfriend who he killed in season one.

After moving home to look after her dying mum, Bronte quickly realised that Joe killed Beck and joined forces with members of an online form to take him down.

Things become confusing when Bronte falls for Joe’s charms, who proposes to her after Maddie, Kate’s sister, burns down his bookstore. The final episode follows Joe and Bronte as they try to make their way to Canada to seemingly live their happily ever after.

Snapping herself out of her love trance, Bronte decides to do the right thing and pulls a gun on Joe while they’re staying a rental home.

Demanding him admit to what he did, Joe enters full bad guy mode when his son Henry calls him him a monster over the phone.

A brawl erupts between Joe and Bronte, with the latter calling the police after briefly escaping him. With the police on the line unbeknownst to Joe, he admits to breaking her ankle so they could talk.

Things reach boiling point moments later when Joe, who thinks he killed Bronte, ambushes a police officer in the woods. In a shocking twist, Bronte is still alive and shoots Joe in the privates as more police arrive to take him away.

Things don’t end there, with a flash-forward scene seeing Joe preparing for his trial at a courthouse in one battle he won’t be able to win.

There, Joe is sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of Beck, Love Quinn, Benji Ashby and Peach Salinger, the people he murdered over the course of the show.

In a nod to the world’s obsession with true crime, Joe becomes a meme on the internet and has podcasts dedicated to his crimes.

You concludes with Joe boasting a shaven head in his prison cell, questioning in his narration if he’s really to blame for everything that happened as he receives a fan letter. In a tongue and cheek moment, Joe says that problem ‘is you’.

Those who have already binged the final season took to X, previously known as Twitter, to have their say as they prepare for life without You.
