Here’s what you need to know:
More severe pollen warnings are in place around the UK this week
The Met Office has issued red ‘very high’ pollen alerts in four areas of the UK, plus multiple amber ‘high’ pollen alerts in other regions.
Along with the onset of spring and warmer weather comes hay fever season which affects more than 10 million people across the UK and is caused by pollen grains released into the air that we breathe in. Symptoms of hay fever include congestion, sneezing, itchy eyes and sometimes headaches and hives.
Every week during the pollen season, between March and November, the Met Office will release a five-day pollen forecast to alert hay fever sufferers of when to expect the worst symptoms.
The warnings issued by the Met Office range from green (low), yellow (medium), amber (high) and red (very high). This week there are red alerts across four areas of the UK affecting parts of the Midlands and London among others.
As well as the red alerts there are also several amber alerts issued across the country this week affecting parts of Yorkshire and Wales.
It comes as the Met Office has warned of a ‘change’ in the weather after nearly two weeks of sunshine and warm weather caused by high pressure. This week, low pressure is returning which will bring cooler, cloudier and at times rainier weather.
