Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford has sent a defiant message after Aston Villa bowed out of the Champions League.

The 27-year-old, who left the Reds in January, played a key role in their 3-2 win on the night but it wasn’t enough to see off Paris Saint-Germain, who scraped through 5-4 on aggregate.

Rashford provided a brilliant assist for Ezri Konsa as Unai Emery’s side staged an unlikely, yet incredible, comeback against the French champions.

In a post to his social media, the attacker fired a response in light of their exit and reiterated not to let their season end in disappointment.

He wrote: “Fantastic support again tonight. We tried until the end but just couldn’t get another goal! We have to keep going as our season is still alive.”

Villa still have a FA Cup semi-final to come when they face Crystal Palace at Wembley at the end of April.

In the Premier League, the quest for European qualification is still very much on as they sit just two points off the Champions League places.

They sit outside the top six places in seventh due to Chelsea’s superior goal difference. On Tuesday, it looked like the Villains would be dumped out of the elite European competition with very little fight after PSG raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.

However, the hosts performed a comeback with Youri Tielemans on the stroke of half-time before John McGinn and Konsa were on target in the second-half to turn the tie on it’s head.

There were hairy moments for PSG with Gianluigi Donnarumma making a number of crucial saves before in the dying embers Ian Maatsen’s volley was cleared off the line by Willian Pacho.
