Quick overview:
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim looks set to be able to call upon the services of Luke Shaw for the clash with Manchester City.
Luke Shaw looks set to be included in the Manchester United matchday squad for this afternoon’s derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The defender arrived at the stadium alongside a handful of his teammates shortly before 12.45pm, carrying his boot bag, suggesting he will be included in head coach Ruben Amorim’s plans. Shaw has been sidelined since December because of a muscle injury.
The England international last started for United in February 2024 and has only made three substitute appearances since, last featuring when United beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford on December 1. He made a brief return to training in January before encountering a fresh setback.
Amorim gave no indication that Shaw may be in contention for the visit of City when speaking to the media on Friday.
There was no sign of fellow defender Matthijs de Ligt among the pre-match arrivals. He suffered a blow to his ankle against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night and Amorim confirmed on Friday that he would need to be “assessed” ahead of the clash with City.
Kobbie Mainoo was also among the pre-match arrivals after Amorim offered hope on Friday that he may return from injury and be available for selection for the first time since the start of February.
In De Ligt’s absence, young centre-back Godwill Kukonki is poised to be included in the squad. Fellow youngster Harry Amass also looks set to make the cut.
Other pre-match arrivals included the likes of Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee. A total of 20 players were accounted for.
Prior to the players arriving, Amorim signed a number of autographs, spending 45 minutes interacting with supporters before making his way inside.
Confirmed arrivals:
Goalkeepers: Andre Onana, Tom Heaton, Altay Bayindir.
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, Godwill Kukonki, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass.
Midfielders: Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes.
Attackers: Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho.
