Latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip with an update on the future of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons

Manchester United have been handed a boost amid reported interest in RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. United have been linked with a move for playmaker for several months, with the rumours first starting last summer.

The Netherlands international went on to join Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last year before the move was made permanent during the January transfer window.

Leipzig agreed a deal reported to be worth around €50million (£42.9million) to sign Simons on a permanent basis in the New Year.

Since then, though, reports have continued to swirl claiming that the 21-year-old is set to leave the Bundesliga club this summer to join a new club.

United are one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing Simons, with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea also apparently in the running for his signature.

Now, United have been handed a fresh update on the midfielders future. Fabrizio Romano has reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Simons is already planning to sign for a new club when the summer transfer window opens.

Leipzig are reportedly looking for a €75million (£64.3million) fee for the 21-year-old, which could hand a boost to Ruben Amorim’s side if they are able to raise the funds for the deal.

However, the report claims that Simons has a “dream” of playing for Barcelona in his career, although it has been suggested that the La Liga giants won’t be making a move this summer.

As a result, while United may have to be mindful that Simons may prefer a move to the Camp Nou, it appears to not be a major concern at this moment in time.

Simons has scored 10 goals with six assists for Leipzig this season and has predominantly played in a No.10 role for the German club. The playmaker is also capable of being utilised on the left wing when necessary.
