A 24-man group took part in Manchester United’s first training session on Wednesday morning.

United players were given Monday and Tuesday off due to the seven-day gap between their Premier League fixtures against Wolves and Bournemouth.

The squad returned to United’s Carrington training complex today and the club released snippets from Amorim’s address before the session.

United drafted in academy midfielder Zach Baumann, while Tyler Fredricson also participated after his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves. Dan Gore, who joined Rotherham United on loan in January, was involved after he recovered from a foot injury that restricted him to two appearances for the League One side.

Ayden Heaven, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Toby Collyer, Amad, Joshua Zirkzee and Altay Bayindir were all absent through injury. Zirkzee (hamstring) and Martinez (cruciate ligament) are out for the rest of the season.

Amad trained separately from teammates during last week’s open session and was doing ball-work as he nears a return from an ankle injury that has kept him sidelined for more than two months.

De Ligt is nursing a foot injury and has missed the last five games but Amorim expects him to be available to play again this season. Amorim clarified Collyer would be ruled out for “a few weeks” after United’s 2-2 Europa League draw with Lyon 13 days ago.

Heaven suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle problem and was not available for the return leg with Lyon and the loss to Wolves last week.

Bayindir suffered a small issue in training last week and was not named in the matchday squad against Wolves. United declined to comment on Diogo Dalot’s apparent absence.

Confirmed United training squad participants: Onana, Heaton, Harrison, Mee, Mazraoui, Fredricson, Yoro, Lindelof, Maguire, Evans, Shaw, Amass, Dorgu, Gore, Casemiro, Eriksen, Ugarte, Fernandes, Baumann, Mainoo, Garnacho, Mount, Obi, Hojlund
