Jean-Claude Blanc has stepped down as a director at United

Ineos appointment Jean-Claude Blanc had stepped down from his role as a director at Manchester United to take up a new position within the club.

The 62-year-old Frenchman was appointed to the United board last year and, as the CEO of Ineos Sport, is a key lieutenant for Sim Jim Ratcliffe after his minority investment in the club.

Blanc is experienced in European footballing circles, having served as an executive at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus before taking on a role within the Ineos sporting empire, which led him to Old Trafford.

He became interim CEO when Richard Arnold stepped down last April, holding the position until Omar Berrada arrived after his gardening leave following his departure from Manchester City had expired in July.

In September Blanc was appointed to the boards of the European Club Association and UEFA’s Club Competition Board of Administration and these roles have meant a change of his duties at Old Trafford.

Having left his position as a director, he has taken on the position of chief of international football relations and special advisor to the board. He is expected to remain actively involved in the management of United, but his focus will be on representing the club on the international stage.

That will include smoothing relations with bodies such as UEFA, FIFA and the European Club Association. Blanc’s role as director was terminated on March 31 in a filing to Companies House.

In a statement, United said: “Jean-Claude Blanc has stepped down from his position as a director of Manchester United Football Club.

“However, he will continue to have an active role in the club’s management in his new position as Chief of International Football Relations and Special Adviser to the board.”
