Manchester United return to action on Sunday afternoon in the derby at Old Trafford (4:30pm kick-off).

Ruben Amorim’s side lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest last time out in a game where they missed several clear-cut chances. The Reds will hope to have their finishing boots on against rivals Manchester City as they seek a first Premier League double over their neighbours in five seasons.

United will then turn their attention to Thursday’s huge Europa League quarterfinal first-leg clash at Lyon. Amorim’s men know that their only hopes of securing European football in M16 next season are by winning Europe’s second-tier competition in Bilbao on May 21.

With all that said, below are the latest media reports surrounding United as well as a view on each one…

Delap verdict

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has been urged to snub a move to Old Trafford in favour of a switch to Nottingham Forest this summer. Former Forest and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes the East Midlands club are currently more appealing than United.

“If I was Liam Delap, I would not join Man United this summer,” he wrote in his column for Caughtoffside. “I think they are not a credible enough team at the moment in terms of competing next season – maybe they can do it in the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup, but they certainly would not be able to do it in the Premier League.

“Instead, he should consider joining someone like Nottingham Forest, who are putting their mouth where their mouth is. All he needs to go is look at guys like Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood, who have turned their fortunes around over the last 12 months, and they are now thriving – especially this season.

“I think Delap would enjoy playing there, especially if Forest were to qualify for next season’s Champions League. And in Nuno Espirito Santo, he would be playing for a manager that loves to counter-attack, and that would suit his style a lot more that if he were to go to Old Trafford in the summer.

“Forest are undoubtedly a club on the up. They are a big club with knowledgeable supporters, and I think it would be a perfect fit for him to make the move there in the summer when he inevitable leaves Ipswich.”

Isaac Seelochan of The Manchester Evening News says: “While Forest are currently in a better state than Man United, it’s hard to know how both clubs will look next season. Will there be a hangover at Forest with them being in Europe? Is Amorim’s system going to look much better after a full pre-season at United?

“It should also be noted that Chris Wood is Forest’s main striker and it’s unlikely they will choose to play with two up top after so much success with just a sole striker. Nevertheless, if Champions League football is what Delap wants, then he is currently more likely to get it at the City Ground, depending on United’s progress in the Europa League of course.”

Yildiz stance

Manchester United-linked Juventus striker Kenan Yildiz, 19, is reportedly in no rush to leave the Italian giants this summer.

TBR Football that the forward is ready to see how things pan out under new Juve boss Igor Tudor and beyond. Yildiz has scored seven goals across all competitions so far this season.

Isaac Seelochan of The Manchester Evening News says: “Yildiz has four years left on his Juventus contract, meaning United will need to pay big money to secure a deal. Such a scenario seems unlikely with the Reds’ current PSR restraints, but if they were to sign him, that would put the Turkish teenager under immense pressure from day one.

“It’s a level of expectation which has crippled Rasmus Hojlund at times, which is why United would be better served to sign a more experienced No.9 this summer instead of another young forward.”
