Latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip with an update on the future of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons

Manchester United have been handed a major update regarding the future of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

United have been heavily linked with a move for the Netherlands international over the last few months, particularly since the January transfer window.

Simons re-signed for Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, when there was also speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League. The move to the Bundesliga club was made permanent in January with a fee reported to be around €50million (£42.9million).

Now, a fresh update has emerged that centres around United. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Leipzig have set their asking price for Simons to allow a permanent transfer for when the summer window opens.

The report claims that Leipzig value Simons at €80million (£68.6million), which is the fee they will demand for his signature this summer.

United are mentioned in the report as having an interest in signing Simons, but will face competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

It has been stressed, though, that United are yet to make an official offer to sign Simons, and the same applies to other clubs that may be in the running.

The 21-year-old has scored 10 goals and provided six assists for Leipzig this term and is seemingly likely to join a new club when the summer transfer window opens.

It remains to be seen which players United will look to strengthen their forward line this summer. Simons is not the only playmaker to be credited as a potential target going into the final weeks of the season, with Wolves star Matheus Cunha also apparently a player of interest if the rumours are to be believed.
