Manchester United have reportedly joined the pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha ahead of the summer transfer window.

Cunha joined Wolves after a tough spell at Atletico Madrid and following a nervy loan spell in the West Midlands, the club decided to take a punt on the Brazilian.

The 25-year-old has almost immediately repaid the faith show in him by Wanderers as he recorded back-to-back double figure goal returns for the first time in his career.

This season’s performances have been particularly impressive considering Wolves’ struggles towards the foot of the table. Cunha has bagged 15 goals in 29 appearances this campaign and has managed an impressive goal every other game in the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT, United have seen enough and have entered the race with Arsenal to sign Cunha.

The Wolves man is not deemed to be a top target for the Gunners who are focusing their efforts towards Viktor Gyokeres.

Nottingham Forest are also thought to hold an interest in Cunha but the Brazilian would prefer a move to a ‘bigger club’ than Nuno Espirito Santo’s side even if they gain Champions League football next season and United don’t.

The report adds that Cunha’s agent has flights booked to England soon to discuss potential destinations for his client.

United have reportedly reached out to Cunha’s representative to open initial conversations but it appears there is still some way to go before the forward is deemed close to agreeing a move.

The Reds are on the lookout for a striker at the end of the season and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is thought to be determined to give Ruben Amorim money to spend at the end of the season.

That being said, Cunha has a release clause of £62.5m included in his contract and Wolves would be keen to get that full amount particularly with Premier League football next season almost a certainty.
