Here’s what you need to know:
Matheus Cunha and Victor Osimhen both continue to be linked with Manchester United
Manchester United have received key updates on three attacking targets ahead of the summer transfer window.
As Ruben Amorim prepares to overhaul his squad this summer, United’s attacking sector is one area in particular in need of improvement. The Reds have scored the sixth-fewest goals in the Premier League this season — just 33, only five more than relegation-threatened Ipswich.
Amad Diallo looked to be the player with the most desire to change that statistic, but he unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury in February. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who cost the club £108.5m, have struggled to earn Amorim’s trust up front.
There is then no surprise that United are searching for some fresh forwards this summer. Matheus Cunha, Victor Osimhen and Xavi Simons are all being linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
Man United hold ‘advantage’ over Cunha
When Wolves were struggling at the beginning of this season, Cunha remained a shining light in the squad. Despite his team being down in 15th, the Brazilian has managed to score 14 goals this campaign – 36% of United’s total output.
MEN Sport had reported on Tuesday that Cunha was a key target for United in their efforts to bolster the Red’s frontline. Arsenal and Aston Villa are reportedly also interested in the 25-year-old, but Sky Sports believe United have a critical advantage.
The broadcasting giants claimed that a source close to Cunha believes the striker ‘loves United.’ He views United as one of the biggest clubs in the world, and their current league position reportedly doesn’t concern him.
Despite sitting 15th in the table, Amorim’s side remain just three games from Champions League qualification via the Europa League. They’ll need to get past Athletic Club in the semi-finals first, which kick-off on Thursday next week.
United ‘pushing ahead’ for
Victor Osimhen has been linked with United for quite some time now. The Nigerian striker has continued to show his relentlessness in front of goal, as he has scored 29 times in 35 games on loan with Galatasaray from Napoli.
The 26-year-old is expected to permanently leave Italy this summer. His contract runs out at the end of 2026, but the Serie A side won’t want to risk losing Osimhen for nothing next season.
And according to the Mirror, United are pushing ahead with a £40million deal to sign Osimhen this summer. The report goes on to claim that Amorim has made the Napoli forward – currently on loan at Galatasaray – his top striker transfer target this summer.
Simons price tag ‘revealed’
The 22-year-old Leipzig star Xavi Simons has been heavily linked with a move to United since the January winter window. With the move seemingly at a stalemate, it could be ready to get going again with the Bundesliga side setting a price tag for their player.
Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports Simons’ price tag is set at £68.6m. It is another tall fee for United to comprehend, but Leipzig will be looking to protect their initial investment of £42.9m with Simons contract ending in 2027.
An official offer from United for Simons has not yet been reported. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the youngster, who has registered 10 goals and 6 assists this season.
