Manchester United have reportedly thrown their hat into the ring in a race to sign highly-rated AS Monaco youngster Maghnes Akliouche.

The move sets up a transfer derby with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who are also reportedly keen on bringing the French international to Manchester.

The 23-year-old winger has been turning heads across Europe after a string of impressive performances for the Ligue 1 side having already racked up 90 appearances and 30 goal contributions – attracting the attention of Ruben Amorim.

He is noted for his pace, quick dribbling and eye for goal, tending to play on the right but is also available to play off the left or drop into the middle in a number 10 role.

French outlet L’Equipe is reporting that his current club is willing to see him leave in the summer for the right offer, allegedly asking for around the £60million mark.

However, they also claim an anonymous source told them they may be willing to accept lower offers around the £40 million mark.

L’Equipe are also reporting that the Manchester sides are not only battling with each other but also PSG who are keen to bring in Akliouche as a replacement for Mbappe – with the youngster on a very similar career trajectory.

If United want to get a deal over the line, it should be the Parisians that they need to worry about, with the young Frenchman reportedly “not immune” to the call of the French giants.

Speaking to the French paper on a separate occasion Monaco boss Adi Hütter revealed that he thinks the Frenchman is ready for the next step. He said: “He made a big, big step in the right direction. I can imagine that the club is receiving some offers from him.

“He is 23, and I don’t see many players with the same skills as Akliouche. When you ask me, he is ready to take the next step. We will see what happens with Maghnes.

“We are proud that we brought a young player from the academy to become a performance player at the club and then to maybe become a top top player at a top top club.”
