Quick overview:
Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Bournemouth forward, who is also attracting interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool
Manchester United could be set to lose out on the transfer of Antoine Semenyo with Liverpool believed to have an edge over in the race to sign the forward this summer.
The Bournemouth star drawing attention from several top-flight clubs after another impressive season on the south coast. The Independent has reported that Semenyo is among those expected to leave Bournemouth during the upcoming transfer window, with Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez also potentially on their way out.
The Ghanaian international is said to be contemplating his future following two years at the Vitality Stadium.
In addition to United and Liverpool, Arsenal is also understood to have shown interest, placing him on their radar for potential acquisitions.
It’s noted that Semenyo’s salary demands would likely be much lower than those of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, whom Arsenal have long admired.
Liverpool, however, have been keeping tabs on Semenyo since last November, with Sky Sports reporting at the time that he was one of the players scouted by the club. United, on the other hand, are likely to miss out on Viktor Gyokeres, who is thought to be open to joining United’s rivals — Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Reds will be able to get Semenyo over the line, with Liverpool holding an advantage in the pursuit.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was instrumental in bringing Semenyo to Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023.
Cherries boss Andoni Iraola has lauded the Ghanaian forward’s contributions, highlighting his confidence and defensive efforts. “Antoine [Semenyo] is in a lovely moment; he is full of confidence, his finishing, with both legs over the line defensively,” Iraola commented.
“I think he is associating very well with Milos [Kerkez] on that left side, and I am happy. I know we will try to keep him there, and as long as he can continue to do the things that he is doing, he is going to be very valuable for us.”
Reports suggest that Bournemouth would likely command a fee upwards of £50million for Semenyo in the summer.
