Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright has expressed a wish to join Norwich permanently in summer after heading there on loan for the second half of the season. The 19-year-old has featured in four of the last six matches for the Championship club as they look to cling onto their promotion dream through the play-offs.

Wright began his season at the Etihad after manager Pep Guardiola made it clear that he did not want the midfielder to go anywhere. His only minutes came away to Spurs in the League Cup in October, yet the pull of the Catalan was enough for Wright to listen.

“There was obviously temptation – there always is going to be – but when the manager and staff around him want you to stay and be around that first team there’s not much of a choice,” Wright told the Manchester Evening News in October.

“There’s no temptation any longer when you get the information that they want you to stay and be around it because they see you as someone that could be around it. The temptation went out the window as soon as I heard that: I was staying for the season.”

However, as more clubs circled in January the decision was made for Wright to go an experience senior football. A loan move to Championship side Swansea was lined up in the final week of the winter window, only for Wright to opt to join Norwich instead.

Starts have been difficult to come by but Wright has regularly featured for the Canaries, coming off the bench at half-time in their 2-1 defeat to Plymouth on Saturday. That result saw Norwich lose more ground in the race to make the play-offs and they are now eight points behind sixth-placed Bristol City with just six games to go.

The loss of team form has not been enough to dull Wright’s experience at Carrow Road though, and he would be very happy to turn his current loan into a permanent move this summer.

“Yes, 100 per cent,” Wright told the Pink Un. “I’m really starting to build something nice at the club. I’m enjoying it. It’s a good family club.

“I’m really enjoying the way they play. Hopefully, we can get some better results next season if I am to stay. I’d definitely like to stay, hopefully.

“I’m really enjoying it and learning a lot game by game. I’m working as hard as I can in training every day. I’m pushing to try and get in the starting XI week to week. I feel like I’m improving as a player, both on and off the pitch. I’m really enjoying it.

“Any game time that I get here is a bonus. Obviously, I want to start as many games as possible, get as many minutes as possible. But whenever the manager wants to put me in, I’m going to come on and do my best.”
