Manchester City will be without goalkeeper Ederson for the Premier League trip to Everton on Saturday.

The Brazil goalkeeper was forced off in the second half of last weekend’s comeback win over Crystal Palace and there are fears the 31-year-old could miss most of the run-in. Pep Guardiola couldn’t or wouldn’t confirm the extent of the injury when he spoke ahead of the Goodison Park trip but the Etihad chief acknowledged his first-choice stopper won’t be fit to feature on Merseyside.

That means Stefan Ortega is in line to deputise as City seek back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this calendar year. They last achieved the feat either side of New Year’s Day when beating West Ham United and Leicester City and the manner in which they stormed back from two down to crush Palace 5-2 has raised hopes that the Blues can finish the season in style.

Everton will be a tough task with the Toffees having improved significantly under David Moyes and playing with the emotion of the final few matches at Goodison before the move to a new stadium next term. But City have a fine recent record at Everton and Guardiola will hope that continues.

And while Ederson is sidelined, City will be able to call upon Phil Foden for the clash and the playmaker could go straight back into the side. It would be harsh on James McAtee, who scored last time out, but Foden could profit from that positional role in the side with City more fluid in attack in the absence of the injured Erling Haaland.

Omar Marmoush will continue in the forward line and Kevin De Bruyne’s heroics last week surely mean he starts again. Guardiola has preferred the experience of Ilkay Gundogan and Mateo Kovacic in recent weeks while Nico Gonzalez can complete the midfield.

It means Savinho, Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish may all have to make do with places on the bench as they try and regain a spot in the side.

In defence, Nico O’Reilly can continue at left back with Rico Lewis tipped to keep his place given Mathues Nunes’ struggles when filling in on the right. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol will be the centre back pairing with Ortgea in goal.

City predicted XI: Ortega; Lewis, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Kovacic, Gundogan; De Bruyne, Foden, Marmoush
