Quick overview:
Pep Guardiola has confirmed Ederson will miss Manchester City’s trip to Everton after picking up an injury against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Ederson will miss Manchester City’s trip to Everton amid fears he could be out for a longer spell on the sidelines as the Blues target a top five place in the Premier League.
The Brazilian goalkeeper limped out of City’s comeback win over Crystal Palace last week after registering his fourth assist of the season and early fears were that he could miss a large chunk of their final seven fixtures. City are fifth in the Premier League, competing with five others for three spots.
The top five will secure Champions League qualification next season after the Premier League earned an extra spot, however just three points separate Nottingham Forest in fourth and Aston Villa in seventh – with Newcastle only two points ahead of Forest.
Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday that Ederson will not travel to Everton and could not say how long he will be out for. City next face top five rivals Villa on Tuesday before a weekend FA Cup semi-final against Forest at Wembley.
“He is not available for tomorrow. I don’t know [longer term]. But for that game is not ready,” the manager said on Friday.
However, there is positive news on Phil Foden and Manu Akanji as both returned to training. Foden missed the Palace win with a knock while Akanji is on track for a return this month having been out since February.
Guardiola said: “Phil came back on Thursday and today a training session since the action from Old Trafford. Manu makes two or three training sessions and he’s moving really well. We’ll see today.”
Erling Haaland is also stepping up his own recovery after injuring his ankle three weeks ago, posting clips of his work in the gym at the City Football Academy looking in good spirits.
Guardiola added that Haaland will still ”not be ready’ for the next few games while John Stones and Nathan Ake are ‘getting better’ but are also still to return to training.
