Armed police raced to the scene in Droylsden on Sunday
A man has been charged after armed police swooped on a Tameside suburb following reports of a person carrying a machete.
Officers raced to calls from residents in the Medlock Vale area of Droylsden on Sunday, April 6. A man was later arrested, as Greater Manchester Police reassured locals there was ‘no current threat to the public’.
Gareth Weston, 33, has now been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He will appear at Tameside Magistrates Court on June 19.

Police confirmed the charge relates to yesterday’s incident in Droylsden. It is understood that nobody was hurt during the incident.
In an update, Greater Manchester Police said: “Gareth Weston (23/05/1991) of Lines Road, Droylsden, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He will appear at Tameside Magistrates Court on 19 June.
“These charges relate to an incident which took place in the Medlock Vale area of Droylsden yesterday.”
