Lorraine Kelly has urged singer Katy Perry to “just shut up” during a furious rant on live television over the Blue Origin rocket flight.

The mission, known as NS-31, is Blue Origin’s 11th space tourism launch and the 31st overall mission of the reusable spacecraft.

The crew included US singer Katy Perry, TV presenter Gayle King, activist Amanda Nguyen, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. Mission leader Lauren Sánchez, who is the fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos, personally selected the NS-31 crew.

After the short 11-minute trip, the stars returned to Earth, and Katy Perry was seen reaching to kiss the ground upon her arrival.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (22nd April), Lorraine spoke about chatting to Joe Lycett with regards to going into space.

When asked if it would be the same as the Blue Origin mission, Lorraine replied: “Don’t get me started about that. I’m fuming. I’m fuming.”

Refusing to hold back, she continued: “Because they cannot call themselves astronauts. How can they call themselves astronauts when they were up on a jolly for 11 minutes.

“And there already has been an all-women crew up in space proper – proper astronauts. It was ridiculous.”

While in the spacecraft, Katy was seen holding a Daisy (representing her daughter whom she shares with husband Orlando Bloom). Referencing this, Lorraine fumed: “That woman with her daisy. Shut up. Just shut up. Go away and leave me alone”.

Presenter Susanna Reid looked taken aback, as she joked: “I’m looking forward to your next interview with Katy Perry!”

Speaking about her journey into space, Katy Perry previously shared: “It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us. It’s about making space for future women and taking up space and belonging. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it.”

The NS-31 mission lifted off from its West Texas launchpad at 2.30pm (UK time) on Monday, April 14. The flight lasted 11 minutes from liftoff to touchdown and passed over the Karman line – an invisible space boundary 62 miles (100km) above Earth. As the crew reached space, Perry exclaimed “oh my god” as she spotted the Moon.

The singer has said she feels “super connected to love” after returning to Earth.

She said: “I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch.”

Katy continued: “It is the highest high, and it is surrender to the unknown, trust, and this whole journey is not just about going to space. It’s the training, it’s the team, it’s the whole thing.

“I couldn’t recommend this experience more. This is like up there with all the different tools that I’ve learned in my life.”
