Quick overview:
Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana dropped two clangers as the Reds were denied a victory against Lyon in the Europa League.
Leny Yoro admitted there was a “cross” feeling inside the Manchester United dressing room following their 2-2 draw with Lyon at the Groupama Stadium on Thursday night.
United looked set to take a slender lead into next week’s second leg at Old Trafford following substitute Joshua Zirkzee’s 88th-minute header, but Lyon ace Rayan Cherki capitalised on a second blunder of the night from United goalkeeper Andre Onana, firing in an injury-time leveller.
United had earlier fought back from behind, getting themselves on level terms via an instinctive header from Yoro, who turned home Manuel Ugarte’s shot to claim his first goal for the club.
Understandably, United’s players were gutted at the full-time whistle, no doubt ruing what could have been going into next week’s second leg back in Manchester.
“I think it is a cross moment to concede a goal like that,” Yoro told TNT Sports when asked to describe the mood among the team. “We were winning 2-1 and I think away that was a good score.
“But we go with the draw and we will try to win the game at home.”
On a positive note, Yoro capped off another fairly solid defensive display by scoring his first United goal. However, he was in no mood to celebrate it as much as he would have liked.
“I didn’t enjoy it too much in the celebration because it is normal, you know,” Yoro admitted. “I want to win, so there was no time for a celebration.
“But I am really happy with my first goal, but we don’t have the win.”
Despite not doing enough to hold on for what could have been a precious lead ahead of the return leg next Thursday, Yoro is confident United will get the job done and progress to the semi-finals.
He added: “I think if we had won 2-1 we would have been more confident, for sure. But we conceded this goal and it is difficult.
“We need to keep our heads up. We didn’t lose. We can win at Old Trafford, of course. I am 100 per cent confident.”
