Kate Garraway has made a ‘scary’ admission about her children after her son was involved in a painful accident.

The TV presenter has two children with her late husband Derek Draper – daughter Darcey, 19, and 15-year-old-son Billy.

Derek sadly passed away on January 3, 2024, following a prolonged battle with Covid-19-related health issues which initially began nearly four years prior.

On Monday morning (April 14), Good Morning Britain presenter Kate was tasked with hosting Lorraine as Lorraine Kelly was off for the day.

It was a hectic morning for Kate, who was joined by the two winners of Gladiators and Gavin and Stacey legend Larry Lamb.

Joined at the beginning of the episode by Dr Hilary Jones, Kate was asked about how she and her children are keeping.

“They’re doing well. Billy’s hair is much longer and he’s looking like Boris Johnson. He’s doing his GCSEs at the moment. They start really early.

“In my day it was always June and now most of these are over by the end of May. I keep telling him ‘you have a long time (to enjoy summer)’,” she said.

Sadly for Billy, the teenager suffered an injury as he and students across the UK prepare to sit the annual exams.

Kate explained: “He did break his arm two weeks ago really badly in two places. Fortunately it was his left hand so he can still write. He got a plaster and he’s all right.”

As for her eldest child Darcey, Kate provided an update into what she’s studying in university and why she and Billy weren’t watching the show.

“Law and criminology, that’s a bit scary isn’t it. She’s having a wonderful time. They’re all going forward as much as anyone can under the circumstances. They won’t be watching because they were supposed to be revising, but actually they’re busy,” Kate joked.

With Christine Lampard and Ravnir Singh unable to fill in for Lorraine, Kate was hosting the programme for the first time since 2014.

Lorraine airs at 9am on ITV1 and ITVX from Monday to Friday.
