Yet, amidst the critiques were fans who thoroughly enjoyed the pair’s presence together. Messages of admiration flowed in with viewers stating: “Brandie’s voice is stunning. Love this. Love the album.”

Another expressed dismay over the limited recognition of Carlile, saying: “Makes me sad how few people know who Brandi Carlile is, I was raised on her music she’s great.”

During the show, presenter Dan Levy shed light on the fact that this marked the first occasion Elton allowed full filming access during the creation of an album, reports the Express.

Pressed regarding any regrets, Elton had his say, commenting: “No, not really. I’m glad it’s there because it’s painful making music sometimes.”

For her part, Brandi revealed the naturalness of the filming, admitting: “It’s really authentic and just a little bizarre.”

A clip showed Elton and his collaborator in the studio, highlighting moments of frustration during the album’s creation. ITV viewers saw Elton throwing paper and slamming his headphones on the piano.

In a voiceover, he confessed: “The reality is, I was exhausted, I had a lot of doubt. I was a nightmare. Angry, I was tired, I was irritable.”

Elton explained that he wanted to create a harmony record, but found it incredibly challenging.

The documentary then cut to an emotional moment where Elton broke down after singing one of the tracks.

He revealed: “To achieve what I wanted to achieve, I had to really work through the pain, it was a big push. I had to feel, for the first time.

“I just lost it. Being emotional on the record, whether it was being angry or crying, I haven’t been that for years and years and years.”
