Here’s what you need to know:
Diogo Dalot netted Man United’s second goal in their pulsating 5-4 Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon at Old Trafford.
Diogo Dalot admitted he “didn’t know” what to do with himself following Harry Maguire’s dramatic winner for Manchester United against Lyon at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
United progressed to the semi-finals of the Europa League in extraordinary fashion, coming from behind in extra-time to seal a 5-4 victory over the Ligue 1 side and progress to the next stage of the competition 7-6 on aggregate.
After blowing a two-goal lead and finding themselves 4-2 down with just seven minutes of extra-time remaining, United produced an astonishing comeback via goals from Bruno Fernandes, who dispatched a penalty, Kobbie Mainoo and Maguire.
Mainoo made it 4-4 on the night and 6-6 on aggregate in the 120th minute before Maguire headed in a minute later to spark wild scenes inside Old Trafford.
Trying to make sense of what happened in the carnage that followed Maguire’s dramatic winner, Dalot, who scored United’s second of the night, told MUTV: “I think I went to the floor, I didn’t know what to do! But moments like this will define your career sometimes and give you some confidence to face the next game.
“We have to enjoy this moment. The fans should have a good one and then we will come back on Sunday to face Wolves.”
Despite producing a comeback that will go down as one of the greatest in the history of European football, Dalot acknowledged that United made it much harder for themselves than they needed to.
“Obviously, we have the quality, but if you analyse the game, we cannot suffer the amount of goals we suffered,” he added. “I don’t want to sound negative, but these are the types of things and moments that we need to control better, to avoid these types of problems.
“Today we solved it, but we could have avoided it. After the first half, I think we were close to perfection in terms of the game plan, pressing really high and controlling the game.
“But I think emotionally we were a little bit down because of the goals we conceded. But then, when you play in this stadium and have a lot of players fighting until the end, and the crowd gives you extra energy, I am really happy with this night.”
