A huge police scene was put in place on a city centre road on Wednesday (April 16) after a pedestrian was injured in a serious collision.

An air ambulance was scrambled, dramatically landing in the middle of Piccadilly Gardens, as large crowds watched on during the afternoon.

Police and paramedics sealed off Dale Street in the Northern Quarter, at the junction with Tariff Street following the crash. The road was blocked in both directions amid the major response.

Witnesses reported seeing a woman ‘lying in the road’ and being attended to by paramedics before she was taken to hospital.
