EXCLUSIVE: Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has spoken out on the soap’s latest cliffhanger, after fans were left wondering whether Maxine Minniver has been killed off

Hollyoaks fans are speculating that Maxine Minniver, played by Nikki Sanderson, may still be alive despite being shot by her boyfriend Dodger Savage, portrayed by Danny Mac.

The Channel 4 soap ended Tuesday’s (April 15) episode with a dramatic cliffhanger, which is now available for streaming on the Channel 4 website.

Earlier in the week, Maxine approached the police after learning from undercover cop Dodger that Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) were holding Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) captive.

This information was relayed back to DI Banks (Drew Cain), and Dodger later overheard Grace plotting to murder Maxine as revenge for her betrayal.

Dodger urged Maxine to flee the village for her safety. Although she tried to persuade Dodger to leave with her, she realised he needed to complete his undercover mission and decided to depart with Minnie without him, reports the Mirror.

Later, Dodger was confronted by Grace and Rex about Maxine’s visit to the police. Grace threatened to harm Myra-Pocahontas McQueen and forced Dodger to choose between his lover and his daughter.

Grace then kidnapped Maxine and interrogated her at The Loft about who had informed her of Robbie’s predicament. When Rex brought Dodger into the scene, Maxine attempted to shield him by insisting he was unaware she was using him for information.

Grace challenged this claim by instructing Dodger to shoot informant Maxine, with even Rex suggesting she was crossing a line this time.

Dodger took the gun and in a dramatic turn of events, he shot Maxine – showcasing his “loyalty” to Grace but leaving fans questioning if Maxine is dead.

On social media, viewers speculated about the cliffhanger, with one commenting: “She probably had a bullet proof vest on or something.”

Another viewer speculated: “Either bullet proof best or a blank to test Dodger. Either way he knew she’d be ok. He wouldn’t kill her.”

Meanwhile, a third postulated: “There’s gonna be a twist.”

When approached for an answer about Maxine’s fate, Nikki remained coy, explaining to MEN: “It wouldn’t be a soap if there wasn’t some type of drama and suspense.

“It’s all very exciting but you’ll have to wait and see. It’s going to be a shocker for the audience.”

Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
