Quick overview:
Get fuelled up before the busy Easter bank holiday weekend
As we head into the busy Easter bank holiday weekend, petrol station forecourts become overrun with motorists looking to fill their tank up before hitting the road for their break.
Drivers are being warned to prepare for long queues and heavy congestion over the next four days, as 19.1 million people are expected to make car journeys on Good Friday alone.
The AA anticipate that a further 18.5 million will get behind the wheel on Easter Saturday, followed by 18.2 million on each of Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
To save yourself some time and stress, it’s important that you make sure your car is in tip-top shape before making any long journeys.
One of the boxes high up on that checklist should be making sure you’ve got a fuel tank of fuel.
Considering we’re still in the midst of a cost of living crisis and everyone is looking to save money where they can, we’ve created a handy little feature that can help you find the best deal on petrol near you.
The cheapest place to get fuel this week within Greater Manchester’s ten boroughs is Bolton, where it’s 125.7p per litre.
If you want to fill your car up at the cheapest spot in Manchester, head over to Asda, 43-53 The Linkway, Horwich South & Blackrod, BL6 6JA.
In general, if you’re looking to make your fuel go for longer, there’s a simple hack you could use to do so.
A personal finance expert at NetVoucherCodes is advising drivers to top up their cars at ‘unusual’ times in order to avail of lower prices.
Rebecca Bebbington says midday and shortly after 5pm are ‘peak times’ at which the price of fuel can cost more in some forecourts.
Instead, she suggests drivers can take advantage of potentially lower prices during other times of day.
Rebecca said: “Petrol prices can fluctuate throughout the day, with prices typically lower during off-peak hours.
“Try to fill up your tank early in the morning or late at night to take advantage of potentially lower prices.
“Avoid peak times such as midday and after 5pm when the majority of the country finishes work.”
Money saving expert Martin Lewis has previously said that people can get a little bit more for their money if they fill up later in the day.
He explained: “Talk of filling up at night getting you more is a slight urban myth, as the difference is minuscule – pennies at best.
“Fuel pumps are calibrated by volume, so fill up at night when it’s colder and you get a tiny, tiny bit extra.”
