A boiler issue has affected the building

A Tameside high school has been forced to stay closed today.

Students at Hyde High School, on Old Road, Hyde, are learning from home today (April 23) with classrooms unable to open.

The closure is due to an ‘unexpected fault’ with the school’s boiler, meaning there is no hot water or heating inside the building.

An update will be issued to parents and guardians by 4pm today on whether the school is able to reopen as normal on Thursday.

In a letter sent to parents this morning, published on the school’s website, headteacher Georgina Arnold said: “We regret to inform you that due to an unexpected fault with our boiler, the school is currently without heating and hot water. This impacts our ability to meet the required health, hygiene, and safety standards for both students and staff.

“As a result, we have made the difficult decision to close the school on Wednesday, April 23, while the issue is being resolved. Engineers have been on site since early this morning, and a replacement part is due to arrive today.

“We are hopeful the repairs will be completed later this afternoon. Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

“We understand how disruptive this is for families and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. An update will be provided by 4:00pm today via text message and on the homepage of the school website.

“We remain optimistic that the school will reopen as normal on Thursday, pending the successful completion of repairs. To ensure that students continue with their learning during the closure, teachers are preparing remote learning materials. These will be available via Go4Schools and Google Classroom throughout the day.”
