ITV star Paul Brand shared a health update with concerned fans after his face sparked a reaction on social media.

ITV’s Paul Brand has reassured his viewers that he’s fine after concerns were raised about his appearance on Monday’s News at 10.

Paul, a familiar face who has been seen in the Good Morning Britain hot seat, joined ITV News back in 2016 and took over as the host of Tonight in 2022.

However, he became the subject of worry this week when social media users noticed that one of his eyes looked swollen and was noticeably lower than the other during Monday night’s broadcast.

In response to speculations that he might have had an “allergic reaction”, he addressed his followers on Instagram to clear the air.

He attributed the eye issue to his toddler’s “grubby fingers” and posted: “For those asking, the dodgy eye is just a product of a toddler’s grubby fingers. Hopefully less red tomorrow.”

However, Paul is not alone in experiencing on-air health-related concerns. Earlier in the year, BBC’s Clive Myrie similarly drew attention when his left eye seemed to be abnormally drooping during a live News At Six segment, prompting viewers to express their worries and encourage the show’s producers to ensure he sought medical advice, reports the Mirror.

At the time, online comments included one worried viewer saying: “I hope Clive Myrie’s OK. A lot of us are noticing his droopy eye.” Another questioned: “Is Clive Myrie OK? His eye’s drooping.”

A third added: “What’s the matter with Clive Myrie’s left eye?” Clive, the host of Mastermind, put any concerns to rest promptly on X by addressing his audience.

He wrote: “Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye.

“It’s nothing serious, just an infection. I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”

The BBC was swift to confirm Clive’s wellbeing, stating: “Clive is fine and just has an eye infection.”

Over on ITV, experienced reporter Rageh Omaar sparked worry among viewers last year when he fell ill during a live broadcast.

Confirming the incident, ITV reported that the veteran journalist had to “receive medical care” after becoming “unwell” on the air.

Audiences of News At 10 expressed concern as the 57-year-old presenter appeared disoriented, his speech slurred slightly as he read from the autocue towards the bulletin’s conclusion.

In the following moments, as Rageh struggled with tidying his desk and recapping his pen after wrapping up the news report, the rolling credits intensified online speculations about his health.

Subsequent reports clarified that while he did experience a sudden illness, his recovery was underway at home following medical attention.

An official from the news channel confirmed that he had been taken to the hospital for treatment and was recuperating at home with his family’s support.

Expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support, Rageh stated: “I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes, especially all the medical staff, all my wonderful colleagues at ITV News, and our viewers who expressed concern.”
