A breaking news announcement was made on Good Morning Britain by hosts Ed Balls and Ranvir Singh, but viewers weren’t impressed

Good Morning Britain brought a breaking news announcement to TV viewers on Wednesday (9 April) morning, as another episode of the hit ITV show aired.

Hosted by Ed Balls and Ranvir Singh, the show was interrupted in the first hour due to an update on the tariff increases imposed by US President Donald Trump.

The White House announced that it has imposed tariffs of 104 percent on most Chinese goods imported into America. The hike comes after Beijing hit back against Trump’s earlier tariff increases.

However, GMB viewers reacted to the announcement by making it clear they weren’t interested in the news, with many taking to social media.

One viewer wrote on X: I don’t care what the so-called experts say, every country should slap a ban on American goods,” while a second added: “Donald Trump is the president of the US. would be better for focusing on our own leaders and their actions. #gmb.”

“Endless speculation stories on tariffs and theme parks on #GMB and no actual news,” a third GMB fan said, while somebody else said: “GMB always been this level of utter drivel? #gmb.”

GMB’s North American correspondent Noel Phillips had the latest tariff updates for GMB viewers.

Speaking live from New York, Noel told viewers: “What we’re witnessing right now is one of the most dramatic confrontations in international politics in modern times. The two most powerful men in the world, facing off against each other.”

He showcased figures from the New York Stock Exchange board before revealing that Donald Trump had warned that further tariffs could be expected, this time on the pharmaceutical supply chain.

“As I’ve been finding out, there is a real sense of anxiety and dread about what’s to come,” Noel revealed.

Trump announced on Tuesday that his government was working on “tailored deals” with trading partners. The White House claimed that allies such as Japan and South Korea would be prioritised in the deals.

Trump’s tariffs on numerous economies came into force on Wednesday (9 April). The tariffs have hit China hardest, but Trump has vowed to fight a trade war “to the end” by promising to retaliate with countermeasures. China’s 34 percent tariffs on US goods are set to be actioned on Thursday (10 April).
