Gary Neville has slammed the lack of quality shown in Sunday’s dull Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

Manchester United and Manchester City shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw at M16, with neither side able to earn all three points. The result leaves United 13th in the Premier League table, while City remain fifth.

Sunday’s game was the first goalless draw between both teams since December 2020. It marked a sea change from the reverse fixture between both teams when Amad scored a dramatic late winner for Ruben Amorim’s team at the Etihad Stadium in December last year.

And former United captain Neville has criticised what he saw between both teams. He points out that both sides looked content with a point.

“The congratulations and love-in that I’m watching at the full-time whistle tells you that both teams are happy with a 0-0,” he told Sky Sports post-match.

“The best Manchester United and Manchester City teams would be very disappointed at the end of that game with the way they approached it. They have been micro-managed to within an inch of their lives. It was so robotic.

“It wasn’t good enough and I am disappointed. It’s a Manchester derby and it should have more blood, thunder and risk than that.”

United will now turn their attention towards Thursday’s huge Europa League quarter final first leg tie in Lyon. The Reds know that winning Europe’s second-tier competition is their only chance of securing European football at Old Trafford for next season.

City, meanwhile, will return to action at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime. The reigning English champions remain in a tight battle to secure Champions League football, a competition they have not failed to qualify for since 2010.
