Quick overview:

Gamers that pre-order can expect to get their hands on the new device on June 5, 2025

Information about the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally out in the wild with the console maker revealing all in an hour-long presentation last week. With vastly more powerful hardware and a much bigger screen, the Switch 2 promises to be a huge upgrade over the original console from 2017.

The new console will launch with Mario Kart World as a game exclusive to the system. Taking the Mario Kart formula into the open world, you’ll be able to explore an expansive map while taking part in races and uncovering secrets and collectibles.

Most Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Switch 2 as well, meaning if you already own a bunch of games for the original console, you’ve already got a library of games waiting for you. Some games will even see Switch 2 upgrade packs, with the likes of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom seeing resolution and frame rate bumps on the new console.

At the same time as detailing everything new with the hardware, Nintendo also gave us its release date. Gamers that pre-order can expect to get their hands on the new device on June 5, 2025.

To make sure you get the console as early as possible, you’ll need to place a pre-order. Nintendo said that these would officially go live on April 8, but several UK retailers have already jumped the gun with product pages live and taking orders right now.

Stock has been selling out left, right and centre, so you’ll need to be quick if you want to grab yourself a new console. Here are all the places you can currently pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK:

There are currently five retailers that will let you place a pre-order for the Nintendo Switch 2 right now, with Argos being the place that most people have had success with. Our colleague Christopher Harper wrote last week about how he managed to secure his own pre-order with the high-street retailer, so we know it’s definitely possible.

Amazon and Very are also taking pre-orders, although Amazon has an invite-only system to prevent scalpers from claiming all the stock immediately. You can register your interest on the sign-up sheet on Amazon’s product page.

Smyths Toys is another retailer that many have had luck with, but it’s currently listed as out of stock on the website. You’ll need to wait until more stock rolls in before the site will let you place an order.

If you’ve got a Currys store near you, your best bet might be to head into store in-person and place a pre-order. The retail giant is taking pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2, but only if you go into store and do it in person – a neat trick to combat scalpers.

As for which version of the Nintendo Switch 2 you should pre-order, there are two different bundles. The console itself costs £395.99, while a version with Mario Kart World bundled in will cost you £429.99.

If you can afford the slight bump in cost, it’s definitely worth going for the Mario Kart World bundle. For an extra £34, you’re getting an iconic Nintendo game right off the bat to get you started with your brand new console.

What’s more, Mario Kart World will cost you £66 if you buy it digitally from the Nintendo eShop, so you’re actually saving £32 by grabbing the game from the off. Nintendo is unlikely to release another Mario Kart game during the lifespan of the Switch 2, so it should last you several years until the next instalment in the franchise drops.

While the links above are the only ones with pre-orders live, there are other retailers to keep an eye on that are expected to open the flood gates from April 8. Bookmark these links and check back tomorrow to see if there’s any stock available:
