The new Netflix murder mystery was released last month

Fans have compared a new Netflix show to Knives Out and Clue and described it as a “must watch” after its release last month.

The Residence, released on Netflix on March 20, is set in the White House and revolves around eccentric and intelligent Detective Cordelia Cupp who gets tasked with investigating the death of A.B. Wynter, the White House’s veteran chief usher.

Detective Cupp is played by Uzo Aduba, known for her role in Netflix’s prison series Orange Is The New Black as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren – a role that won her several awards including three Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Residence has received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 86% and fans have said it provides a fresh perspective on the traditional ‘who dunnit’ stories.

Fans of the new Netflix series have taken to Reddit to discuss The Residence and share their opinions, with one viewer describing it as “perfection”, and another calling it a “must watch”.

Over on r/Netflix, @MaybeEdy32 asked: “What were your thoughts on Netflix’s whodunnit series ‘The Residence’ set in The White House?” The thread has racked up more than 80 comments from other viewers discussing the new show.

@Carroms replied: “Entertaining. If you like Glass Onion, Clue, etc.”, and @RoadMostTaken said: “I thought they nailed it.”

@Alternative_Year_340 said: “The world needs another Cordelia Cupp mystery”, and @Laura9624 added: “Omg, I loved it! Loved the acting, the whodunit, the humor, the setting with so many suspects! So great, I wish they’d do more.”

@Joshuahtree ran straight to Reddit after finishing The Residence and wrote: “I literally just finished it (the final credits are rolling as I type this) and it is perfection! It’s a new, strongly written character/IP and it kept me guessing the whole time!

“Normally I’m pretty good at figuring these out before the big reveal, but The Residence mislead me at least 3 layers deep! If you enjoy murder mysteries this is definitely an absolute must watch! I came straight here to see if there was any news on Detective Cupp’s next case!”

@Franktelevision said: “Really good series, especially the finale. That was the best episode. The acting was great. With that said, it should’ve been at most 6 episodes and some of the storylines could’ve been tighter. There were parts that were not as interesting. I would say 8/10, for me.”

The Residence is inspired by the book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower. The book is non-fiction, but the show takes creative liberty and builds a fictional murder mystery around real settings.
