Latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip as Alejandro Garnacho is attracting interest ahead of the summer

Napoli manager Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on signing Alejandro Garnacho this summer, following the Italian side’s initial interest in January.

MEN Sport understands that a £40million bid from Napoli was rejected by United chiefs in January. The club were believed to be holding out for their approximate £60m valuation of the winger, with the incentive of a ‘pure profit’ sale considered to be significant.

Despite seeing their initial effort rejected, Conte is said to have been ‘vocal’ about Napoli’s failure to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year. Calcio Mercato suggest Garnacho is viewed as the ideal replacement.

They go on to report that the Italian manager is ‘obsessed’ with the idea of signing the Argentina international and is described as wanting him ‘at all costs.’

In addition to Garnacho, Napoli are said to have Igor Paixao and Riccardo Orsolini on their shortlist. However, Garnacho is described as their ‘number one objective.’

Previously addressing the transfer interest, Reds head coach Ruben Amorim said: “I’m happy to have Garnacho here. He’s improving a lot. He’s a young talented guy. You want to work with these guys with talent.

“That’s what drives the coaches to improve the team; to have these kinds of players that you know they are going to improve a lot. In football, especially when we are in these situations, sometimes it’s hard, but I don’t want to focus on that – I’m really happy to have Garnacho playing.”

Previous reports have claimed the 20-year-old would prefer a move to La Liga if he is to leave Old Trafford this summer. It is thought that Garnacho would eventually like to follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and sign for Real Madrid.

However, his only option in Spain at present is their rivals Atletico Madrid.
