Quick overview:
The former Ajax manager has been out of work since he was sacked by Manchester United in October.
Erik ten Hag has sparked speculation about his next career move after being seen in Italy.
The Dutch coach has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United back in October. United swiftly found a replacement for the former Ajax head coach – but Ten Hag has taken time before re-entering the dugout.
He was rumoured to be considering a return to Ajax, while Borussia Dortmund reportedly showed some interest during their recent poor run of form. However, it seems that Juventus and Roma (might) be possible destinations for Ten Hag, who was recently spotted in Turin.
The 55-year-old was seen arriving at the Stadio Olimpico ahead of Roma’s Serie A match against Juventus.
Footage of him entering the stadium was captured, while Ten Hag was later seen in the stands during a 1-1 draw between the two Italian powerhouses.
Both clubs may be in the market for new managers in the near future. Claudio Ranieri – Roma’s interim manager – will depart at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Juventus dismissed Thiago Motta last month, replacing him with Igor Tudor, who only has a shorter-term agreement himself.
Roma confirmed that Ten Hag attended the Serie A game as a guest of the Friedkin family. According to The Sun, he checked into a hotel on the morning of the match, a hotel typically reserved for new signings.
Ten Hag, meanwhile, opened up about his future plans during his SEG Stories podcast appearance – hinting at a potential departure from his current role: “There are so many other things I could do,” he said.
“Maybe in football, in a new position as a manager. That’s an option. And maybe something completely different.”
Ten Hag went on to discuss his involvement with family business ventures. He added: “I’ve been working with my brothers lately. We have our own company. Or rather; they have their own company.
“But we also run a company together with our father. That’s also something I love to do I can now give that more attention and it’s also a lot of fun.”
Over at Juventus, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has shed light on the club’s managerial situation.
In a press conference, he showed appreciation for their former coach while discussing the appointment of a new one: “I wanted to thank Thiago Motta and his staff for their great work in recent months.
“I also wanted to clarify that the relationship with Thiago will remain one of great esteem. We took some time to reflect after my words in Florence, and decided to make a change for the team and for Juventus.
“Our choice immediately was for Igor, especially given his technical and moral qualities.
“Igor will stay with us until the end of the season including for the Club World Cup. Then we will meet up and the hope is to move forwards together. We believe in the team a lot, and we are very confident for the future.”
