The actor unexpectedly reunited with another Emmerdale star as he waited to go on holiday

Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden took to his Instagram after he unexpectedly encountered co-star Roxy Shahidi on the same flight as him.

Matthew appeared on the ITV soap in 2006 to take on the role of David Metcalfe. As the son of Eric Pollard, he arrived in the Dales in search of his father after his mother Lydia passed away from breast cancer.

Along with a string of failed relationships, his character also had a brief romance with Roxy Shahidi’s role, Leyla Harding.

After his exit due to wanting to take on more opportunities outside of the Leeds-based soap, Matthew did say: “I might be back, but we’ll see.”

Matthew hasn’t returned to the Dales yet, even as Leyla’s funeral took place after she was one of three confirmed deaths in the Valentine’s limo crash.

Former co-stars and good friends Matthew and Roxy recently announced that season two of the podcast will be out April 30, with a new episode out every week with a fan question special being posted at the end of the series as a bonus episode.

Taking to his Instagram on Monday (April 14), Matthew posted a video as he waited to board the plane alongside his friend, Jay. He said: “I’ve just got to the airport, about to get on the plane with my mate Jay. Unfortunately, I’ve bumped into…”

He then turned the camera to Roxy who was on the airplane steps ahead of him as she excitedly replied: “Hey who else would you wanna see at five in the morning?!”

Matthew laughed as he joked: “Honestly, I have far too much of her and then I come on holiday and she decides to book on with me…”

To which Roxy cleared up his remark as she added: “I mean that absolutely did not happen!”. On his next story, Matthew wrote: “Me and @roxyshahidi have been working hard on new stuff recently!”

He continued: “So took a holiday with my mate @jaykos1… Ended up being on the same flight as her and her sis didn’t we!”

They shared an update with their podcast recently, as they said: “So big news guys… big news. We’ve done something over lunch, we’ve got a TikTok account.”

They continued: “We’ve got no content yet, but we will have. We’re content creators now. Matt and Roxy’s TikTok, follow us. There’s absolutely nothing on there”
