The actor has teased that Caleb is wary of Jai’s intentions in upcoming episodes

Emmerdale star William Ash shared his “massive concern” for Caleb as Steph continues to spiral, leaving him worried that the secret surrounding Anthony Fox will be “blown wide open”.

William joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2022 to take on the role of Caleb Miligan in the ITV soap. He’s had plenty of ups and down since arriving in the Dales but has recently found himself caught up in the murder of Anthony Fox.

Last year, Caleb and Ruby’s daughter Steph arrived in the village with Ruby’s father Anthony. It didn’t take long until viewers learned that Ruby’s discomfort around her estranged father was due to him repeatedly sexually abusing her when she was a teenager.

Caleb became furious after he learned that he wasn’t Steph’s biological father, and later found out that Anthony was instead.

After confronting his father-in-law with a gun, Caleb let him go without an injury. Anthony fled to the depot hoping to meet Steph, but instead found Aaron Dingle was waiting for him.

During an intense few moments, Aaron forced a confession out of Anthony after his own experience of being abused by his father Gordon Livesy played in the back of his mind.

With Aaron beating him until he lay bleeding on the floor, Ruby found him later on and made sure he was dead. John Sugden helped to hide his body and cleaned up any evidence.

Steph only found out the truth recently after finding a gun in Caleb’s safe. Since then, she’s been struggling to hold it together. In upcoming episodes, Steph receives a bouquet of flowers from “Anthony”, but it later turns out to be Jai Sharma who’s been digging around for information, convinced they’re hiding something.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other press, William Ash shared: “I think Jai is kind of nosy by nature anyway. And because Caleb in the past has, you know, taken him to the cleaners financially, and Jai is now reliant on Caleb as being his boss and his source of income.

“Caleb’s really wary of him that if he starts digging, then he might find something to about Anthony and about Ruby and also the rest of it, you know, the extended family as well, and about Steph.”

He continued: “So, yeah, he could absolutely blow it wide open. And, also, I suppose Steph’s shown that she’s not completely coping. You know, the vulnerability of Steph, he’s really, really aware of, and he’s kind of trying to guide her through this.

“Obviously, because they’re struggling to get any kind of therapy for Steph because she might end up, you know, telling them everything, and they don’t want her to tell them anything. So they’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.”

The actor added that Jai has already figured out Steph is struggling and it’s something to do with Anthony, and viewers will watch as Ruby decides to disclose the truth about Anthony’s abuse to keep him off the scent.
