Viewers expressed their fear that something sinister will happen to Aaron Dingle at the hands of John Sugden

Emmerdale fans have had an intense week as John Sugden’s true colours have finally been exposed. Viewers announced they “can’t watch” his scenes with Aaron now that they know his past.

John has been raising suspicions ever since he arrived in the village last year. After striking up a romance with Aaron Dingle, his usual composed behaviour has started to crack in recent episodes.

He misdiagnosed Kerry, declaring her “hungover”. Liam double-checked and realised that John had missed that she had diabetes – Liam informed John of his mistake, which left him angry.

He took his anger out on Aaron and told him he couldn’t always “be the hero”. He decided to call Aaron later while at a scrapyard as he said: “Aaron, look I’m really sorry, I just needed some time to think.

“You were right and I’ll be fine. I’ll be coming home in a bit. I’ll pick up some pizzas on the way. Love you too. Bye.”

In a shock twist, after hanging up John picked up a sledgehammer and repeatedly hit a car in the yard, leaving it smashed up into pieces with his rage.

During Thursday’s hour-long installment, viewers saw Nate Robinson’s final moments as he was injured during the barn fire. As John tried to save him, he accidentally killed him. Fans watched as John tied him up and threw his body into the lake.

Asked if he’s excited John’s true colours are being shown, Oliver Farnworth replied: “Yes, I think for me, the exciting thing is that the viewers find out first before anyone else in the village. So it’s kind of like letting them into these big secrets that John’s been harbouring. It’s caused him a lot of stress and anguish having to hide things.

“I think the fact that the viewers find out first, is going to be really exciting although I’ll see what the backlash is I guess! It was bound to happen at some point, so I’m glad it’s come out now”.

John was also revealed to have been the one who swapped Chas’ pills, threw the brick through the window, cancelled Liam and Chas’ wedding and caused Jacob to go into anaphylactic shock.

During Friday’s (12th April) episode, fans announced that they now feel uncomfortable watching John’s scenes with Aaron as they’re worried for their favourite character.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), @krishanmaharaj wrote: “John you creep, I can’t watch Aaron and John scenes knowing what he has done”.

@Mili_Mo74 theorised: “what makes me worried for Aaron are two things John said yesterday: ‘you’ll never lose me’ and then later when Aaron said that he would do anything for John, John just said ‘ditto’. Both sounded like threatening hints for an upcoming very dark story” as @JennyPe27774388 questioned: “Is Aaron safe from John?”
