Coronation Street star Sally Carman-Duttine has been opening up about life on the cobbles and why she has not plans to leave, there is one thing she’s admitted she’d love to do.

The actress is best known now for playing Abi Webster in the ITV soap, but was previously known for a number of roles, including playing heroin addict and prostitute Kelly Maguire in the Channel 4 series Shameless.

It was four years after Shameless came to an end that Sally joined Corrie in 2017, with Abi also experiencing a drug addiction. But Sally isn’t worried about being typecast in those grittier, more troubled character roles.

“That ship sailed!” she smiled when talking to OK! Magazine. “The thing is, I always go to auditions looking smart. I always wash my hair and my armpits and put on make-up.

“Yet I’m still always seen as the one who can play a tart, a prostitute, a drug addict or somebody who has fallen on hard times.

“But I’m OK with it. I get to play meaty parts and really interesting characters. I feel so lucky and I don’t understand how anyone could be upset about being typecast because that means you’re working, doesn’t it?”.

“I came into work yesterday and went into the Rovers Return and there was Joe, Sue Devaney [Debbie Webster], Mike Le Vell [Kevin Webster] and a few others. I got a real moment of gratitude where I thought, ‘It’s the best job in the world and I work here and I get to hang out with these people.'”

She added “I love Coronation Street – I felt settled from day one. It was a long time coming. It took me 20-odd years to get here. I’ve had a very full career, I’ve done everything I want to do, so there’s no feeling of, ‘Oh, I really want to do this as well.’ I don’t. I’m getting everything I need as an actor creativity-wise from Abi.”

But the self-confessed fan of the festive season did admit: “I do want to do a Christmas film one day, I will admit that, but otherwise Coronation Street ticks all the boxes.”

Sally also has Corrie to thank for her family life after marrying co-star Joe Duttine, who is much-loved for playing Tim Metcalfe in the long-running show. The loved-up couple are thought to have started their relationship in the summer of 2018.

In June 2021, they posted a selfie together in a hot tub which was captioned “Three years” and they then moved into a new home together at the end of 2019.

Joe and Sally announced the happy news that they were engaged in March 2020. Taking to Instagram at the time, Sally shared a picture of her emerald green and gold ring while the pair celebrated with champagne.

They then officially tied the knot in the summer of 2022.
