Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has delighted fans as he enjoyed a reunion with a very familiar face and let them know in a social media update.

The actor, who plays Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap, took to Instagram with a snap of himself and former on-screen husband Peter Ash, who fans best know for playing Paul Foreman in the long-running show.

As Corrie fans know, Pete bowed out of Corrie back in September, with his beloved character’s heartbreaking death coming 17 months after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The hard-hitting storyline saw Corrie work with the help of the MND Association to portray the deterioration of Paul as well as the effect the disease had on his family and friends, including husband Billy, mother Bernie Winter, sister Gemma Winter and Summer Spellman.

After a heartbreaking race to say goodbye in which his husband Billy, played by Daniel, didn’t make it, Paul has since been laid to rest and Corrie viewers recently saw Paul’s ashes shot up into space. But in an unexpected twist, Paul was also seen returning in an emotional confrontation with his despairing husband Billy.

Peter later made another appearance on the cobbles when Billy turned to alcohol in the wake of his grief. Things reached a dramatic head as after storming out of the Rovers Return, Billy drank behind the factory and began to hallucinate.

As he struggled to face the cold night, Paul was heard encouraging Billy to wake up and turn things back around. Soon after the emotional scenes, Bernie found Billy having been visited by Paul in her dream.

Since his exit from the cobbles, Peter has been seen starring in panto in Oldham and has since been back on stage in Peter James’ stage adaptation of Picture You Dead, which recently enjoyed a spell in Salford at The Lowry.

Taking to Instagram over the Easter weekend, Daniel revealed he’d managed to spend some time with Peter and sharing a beaming selfie of the pair on Instagram, he said: “Look who I’ve found!!! [love heart eyes emoji] #Reunited.”

And fans were quick to respond. @jayneb229 said: “Awww absolutely love you 2. Brilliant actors with a great chemistry.” @jordsdanx commented: “Always missing you two on screen together.” @rosemarypadgett wrote: “Simply the best two, you are so missed together.”

@vonnyt1956 replied: “Love you both. Saw Peter at the Lowry last week. He was fab.” @hannah_amyxxo posted: “Ahhh my favourites back together!!!!” @vicksjfear added: “Yay! Do miss you two on Corrie.”

It comes after Daniel and co-stars Harriet Bibby (Summer) and Jane Hazlegrove (Bernie) headed on a group outing to see Peter in action at The Lowry.

Alongside a picture of the foursome back together, Peter wrote on Instagram: “Had some familiar faces in the audience last night! Thanks so much for coming to see ‘Picture You Dead’ at @the_lowry and supporting me, @danielbrocklebank @harrietanneb @jane_hazlegrove and @garpierce (not pictured)! @peterjamesonstage.”

In response, Daniel wrote in the comments section: “Gorgeous to see you matey and lovely to see you on stage!!” while Harriet simply responded with two red heart emojis.
