Coronation Street star Calum Lill has excitedly shared his next move with fans, five months after his final scenes as villain Joel Deering aired.

The actor joined the ITV soap as the solicitor in September 2023. But just over a year later, Joel was dramatically killed off as the truth about his smooth and professional exterior was exposed.

who Dee-Dee Bailey soon fell head over heels in love with. But under his smooth exterior Joel was hiding a dark secret – a penchantJoel later became public enemy number one and as Lauren Bolton, Dee-Dee Bailey and DS Lisa Swain all rallied to bring him down after the truth was finally revealed.

However, it was no surprise when Joel disappeared. But when his body was found following an apparent suicide, the police soon discovered that someone had in fact murdered Joel.

It was confirmed he’d been killed with a heavy weapon before entering the water and several Weatherfield residents were put in the frame – Dee-Dee, her father Ed, her uncle Ronnie, Mason Radcliffe, Lisa, Carla Connor, DC Kit Green and finally Max Turner and Lauren Bolton.

It was then revealed that in an eventful night for Joel, after Ronnie and Ed went after him with a crowbar, he was attacked by scorned ex Dee-Dee, threatened by Kit and pushed into the river by Max. But not before Lauren had delivered the killer blow amidst their train track confrontation.

After ditching the cobbles for a role in panto at the end of last year, Calum went on to enjoy sunnier climes as he headed travelling around South East Asia

Now back in the UK, Calum had some exciting news to share. “Really exciting, I’ve got my next acting job. I’m doing a play in London at the Old Red Lion Theatre from the 13th to the 24th of May….”

He’ll be appearing in The Sociable Plover, Tim Whitnall’s fantastically dark comedic thriller, which previously debuted at the Old Red Lion Theatre in 2005.

Responding to the news, former Corrie co-star Alex Bain said: “Incredible news Calum! I’ll try get to see it if I can do mate!” @cobblesfan commented: “Ooh good luck ur gonna be amazing.”

It comes after Corrie marked Calum’s ‘return’ to the soap world, but only to mark his nod at the upcoming British Soap Awards in which he has been longlisted for villain of the year.

Sharing the news on Instagram, the soap said: “He had us all on the edge of our seats and played a blinder as Joel! If you think Calum Lill deserves Villain Of The Year at this year’s Soap Awards then vote now! (Link in bio!) #Corrie #SoapAwards @calumlill @thebritishsoapawards.”

Calum later reshared the post to his Instagram Story and said: “What a gift to come back from travelling to this nomincation. Thanks everyone who’s voted and if you’d like to, here’s the link.”

And fans were quick to respond with the same message. @monchhichifanuk said: “When an actor is SO good they convince you they are actually like that in real life, that’s what Callum did! Have voted for him.” @xjeankellyx wrote: “He gets my vote. Good luck Callum.”
