Coronation Street fans think they have ‘worked out’ what Carl Webster will do next as he became the first to discover Debbie Webster’s dementia diagnosis.

As viewers of the ITV soap witnessed last week, Carl appeared in Weatherfield for the first time, having only ever been mentioned by name in the show, after a minor collision in Frescho’s car park with Abi Wester, who he didn’t know is his sister-in-law.

During recent weeks, Abi’s husband Kevin Webster learned that he had testicular cancer. After undergoing surgery to remove the testicle, he has since discovered he needs more treatment and has begun sessions of chemotherapy.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to her family, Debbie was referred to have a memory assessment as she was told she could have young on-set vascular dementia.

During Friday’s (April 11) episode of Corrie, fans saw Abi head out to pick up Kevin’s anti-sickness medication but ended up in a minor collision with Carl – although they’re both unaware of who each other are.

After getting into a heated argument, Abi ended up hitting Carl, giving him a bloodied nose. They decided to call it quits as she insisted the dent in the back of her car was down to him. As they headed in their own directions, Abi was soon helping Carl after his car wouldn’t start.

But after some flirtatious looks and sarcastic remarks, there was clearly a spark between the two and Carl asked to take Abi out for a drink, despite her insisting she was married.

Later, after sharing the story with Kevin and Debbie – missing out the obvious flirting – Abi was in shock as she returned to their table at the Bistro to find Carl reuniting with his family, realising the man in the car park is her husband’ little brother.

During Monday’s (April 14) Corrie, viewers saw Debbie head to her appointment, after having to step in for an AWOL Carl after he agreed to take Kevin to his next chemo session.

Having had her assessment, Debbie was informed that while she performed well on some of the questions, others sparked cause for concern and more tests would be needed. As she was encouraged that while the disease would shorten her life, she would still have many happy years to live, Debbie gathered her family at the Bistro and popped the question to Ronnie Bailey, after turning him down last week.

But amidst the celebrations, Carl was seen taking suspicious phone calls and when he searched in Debbie’s handbag for a pen, he found her letter from the neurologist.

At the first opportunity he had to speak to Debbie alone, Carl questioned when she planned on telling her family that she may have dementia, leaving Debbie stunned. While she insisted nothing was yet confirmed, Carl urged her to tell Ronnie the truth, especially given that she had just asked him to marry her.

But Corrie fans were quick to take to social media as they think they know what Carl will do next. @tracy.c70 said: “There is something definitely dodgy about Carl, the affair he is going to have with Abi is going to blow her and Kevin’s world apart, totally selfish when he has cancer and Debbie is going to really struggle with it all on top of her dementia.”

@joycewest2010 replied: “Reckon he’s after money for his business in Germany.” @ladderack asked: “Will Carl now blackmail debbie the swine#corrie.” @DionPetrie commented: “Carl better not try and scam Debbie just cause she won’t remember #Corrie.”

@tmoraitauthor posted: “So Carl knows Debbie’s secret, he’s gonna start gaslighting her to get money out of her #corrie.” @ChewBarker1978 added: “Oh you have to be kidding me. They’re bringing Carl into the Debbie storyline now. If they do anything that involves him stealing her money or blackmailing her, there’s going to be one hell of a backlash. #Corrie.”
