Here’s what you need to know:
The character first arrived in Weatherfield back in 2008, marking actor Mikey North’s big break
Coronation Street fans have been given a big update on Gary Windass after they were recently left confused over his whereabouts.
The character first arrived in Weatherfield back in 2008, marking actor Mikey North’s big break. Sine then, viewers of the ITV soap have watched the builder turned debt collector Gary become a soap villain after causing the death of Rana Habeeb in the Underworld factory sabotage before killing Rick Neelan.
Gary had to resort to desperate measures his murderous secret finally came to light after three years of being hidden in 2022. Luckily for Gary, it was just Laura Neelan who found out he killed her estranged husband Rick and not the whole of Weatherfield.
Since then, things have been a lot quieter for Gary, however, last year, Gary and his wife Maria were faced with dealing with the horrific bullying of her son Liam Connor Jnr.
But more recently, Corrie fans have been flocking to social media to question Gary’s lack of appearances on the cobbles.
@camjmes0 said: “Thinking about how Gary Windass has only been in one episode of #Corrie this year and that was in January?” @Scooter_Animal replied: “The mystery disappearance of Gary and The Kabin continues…
@oxley8150 commented: “Has got a little weird, his absence.” @hewittchrisd asked: “Where is Gary Windass? Really need his storyline in #Corrie #Coronationstreet.” @darrennpassey added: “I was saying the same, he has become so underused lately, hope he is back on screen soon.”
But for those who have been missing Gary in Weatherfield, we have good news. Spoilers have revealed that next week in the café, Gary tells Maria that business is slow at the shop and he’s thinking of selling up and buying the builder’s yard but Maria’s adamant that they can’t afford it.
In the Bistro, Gary confides in Mick Michaelis how he’d like to buy the builder’s yard but Maria’s not keen. Mick reckons he should go ahead as what’s best for him is best for Maria too. Maria finds Gary and Mick enjoying a celebratory drink in the Bistro.
Later, an excited Gary assures Maria he’s going to make a success of the builder’s yard. But Maria warns him that it was a mistake to offer Mick a job and tells Mick he’s not welcome.
It comes after Corrie newcomer Jonathan Howard recently revealed how he auditioned for the role of Gary, before landing the role of Carl Webster this year.
The 38-year-old actor – who has appeared in the likes of World War Z, Thor: The Dark World and Godzilla: King of the Monsters – arrived on the cobbles earlier this month as Kevin and Debbie Webster’s long-lost brother Carl.
He said in an interview with the Mirror: “It’s come full circle. It feels like the universe has brought me back to Coronation Street and the north of England. I remember going for the screen test for Gary Windass and I was down to the last handful. I was really disappointed not to get it.
“In the moment, it was hard to have a philosophical outlook on it, but at the same time I knew that the universe had got something else for me. I wouldn’t have had a career in America if I’d got the part of Gary. And I wouldn’t have met my wife, who I met at drama school.”
