Coronation Street actor Adam Hussain confirmed that he’ll be leaving the ITV soap after five years of of playing Aadi Alahan.

Adam joined Weatherfield in 2020 after taking on the role from previous actor Zennon Ditchett who played the character for ten years.

The Manchester-based soap will see it’s fair share of exits this year, with Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Max Turner (Paddy Bever) and Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) all leaving too.

Taking to his Instagram, Adam shared a snap of him with the cast of Coronation Street as he wrote: “‘I guess the secrets out now! As some of you may have heard, I will be leaving Coronation Street for new pastures,’ the actor penned, alongside a recent photo of the full Corrie cast.

“Over the 5 years I’ve spent there I have learned so much about the world and the industry and now feel I am ready to spread my wings a little. I have made friends that will last a lifetime and will surely miss such a special family!”

He finished: “This isn’t a farewell for Aadi however, more like a see you later! I’m excited to see what the future brings! Thank you Coronation Street for giving me such a privilege of portraying this character for you. Until next time!”

Adam has tackled some big storylines since joining Weatherfield, including trying to protect his fiancée Kelly Neelan from getting shot, just a few months after he survived a severe car crash that saw his dad, Dev, save his twin sister Asha over him.

When joining the show, he shared: “I am excited to play the role of Aadi, putting my own twist on him as the character becomes involved in an important new storyline. I was already good friends with Tanisha Gorey, before coming to the street, which helps hugely with portraying the bond of brother and sister.

“Everyone at Coronation Street has been so welcoming, bringing me in to their family and treating me as one of their own. I have always associated Coronation Street with family and togetherness which is so important at this time.

“Having already filmed the start of this story before we had to stop production I look forward to returning as part of the amazing team who bring entertainment and joy to the screens of viewers across the nation.”

His first storyline saw him try to deal with the perils of “sexting” as Asha was exposed after sending racy pictures to her boyfriend at the time, Cory Brent.

Adam’s co-stars took to the comments to share their support, with Channique Sterling-Brown (Dee-Dee Bailey) writing: “We love ya” and Tony Maudsley (George Shuttleworth) adding: “Awww we’ll miss you Adam!! xxx”.
