Celebrity Big Brother fans said they were ‘not surprised’ after Daley Thompson was eliminated from the ITV reality show.

Daley was facing EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer, who left the BBC soap this week, in Friday night’s (April 18) eviction.

The UK Olympian won the decathlon gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, breaking the world record on four separate occasions.

Unbeaten in competition for nine years, Daley is considered to be one of the best decathletes of all time.

Daley became the third celebrity to be voted off the show by the public, with former MP Michael Fabricant and Trisha Goddard both losing their respective votes.

Those watching at home rushed to X, previously known as Twitter, to have their say on Daley’s exit as the competition heats up.

@thom_ahs said: “As happy as I am to see Daley go, it doesn’t sit right with my soul that 2 people who actively wanted to stay in the house got booted over Patsy who is desperate to leave #CBBUK.” @MissAbbieFDS stated: “I’m not surprised Daley is out #cbbuk #cbbll.”

@JackTheFact29 wrote: “I liked Daley and his laid-back presence, wished he stayed a little longer. #CBBUK.” @RyanSoapKing25 posted: “The most predictable eviction of the series so far.”

@AAngels05 commented: “Not gonna lie, Daley was definitely the right person to leave tonight. Out of the two Patsy was giving more and is more of an interesting character to watch develop.” @BragsterJourno posted: “Daley really started to come out his shell the last few days and ending on karaoke is a great way to go out! #CBBUK.”

During his stay in the house, Daley revealed to former CBBC presenter Angellica Bell that he once had an argument with a young David Beckham.

He recalled: “Back in the day when I was training, I was training at Crystal Palace, and I was pole vaulting.

“I’m in the middle of my session, got my head on, got my game head on, and this kid comes up to me and says, ‘can I have your autograph?’.

“I said, ‘no not now, I’m really busy, please let me’. He said, ‘my school’s only here for an hour, I want your autograph’. I say, ‘sorry son, you can’t’ and the kid walks off.”

Daley added: “A few years later, I meet him and he says to me, ‘you told me to f*** off’. I said ‘yeah, not sure I did’. It was David Beckham.”

The 66-year-old went on to say he could not remember whether he actually swore at the former England football captain, who will turn 50 next month.

Celebrity Big Brother returns on Sunday, April 21, at the later time of 10pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
