Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes arranged for seven-year-old Bobby Moore to be mascot at the Manchester derby.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes orchestrated a special day for one Reds-mad supporter at the Manchester derby.
Fernandes led the home side out at Old Trafford for the Premier League clash with Manchester City and was accompanied by seven-year-old mascot Bobby Fisher from Belfast.
The youngster was United’s first wheelchair/powerchair using mascot and caught the eye of Fernandes when the skipper saw a video of Bobby celebrating a goal from the Reds midfielder in the last derby.
The Portugal international subsequently got in touch and invited Bobby to watch United train at Carrington on Friday in the build-up to the 196th derby. Bobby then led the team out alongside the 30-year-old prior to kick off.
Fernandes scored a late spot kick at the Etihad in December to equalise for United before Amad netted a stunning last-gasp winner for Ruben Amorim’s side to complete a 2-1 success.
That has been one of few highlights for United in a disappointing season which sees them in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup before Christmas and exited the FA Cup to Fulham in the last-16.
The Reds can still end the campaign with a trophy as they remain in the Europa League. Lyon are the opposition in the last eight and United travel to France for the first leg on Thursday before welcoming the Ligue 1 side to Old Trafford a week later.
