The family of 11-year-old Kaliyah Coa – who went missing in the Thames on March 31 – have been told that a body has been found in the river, the Metropolitan Police said.

Officers were alerted to a body in Maritime Quay in east London on Sunday at 9.03am.

A police spokesman said: “The body is yet to be formally identified.

“However, the family of Kaliyah Coa have been informed of this development and are being supported by specialist officers.”

Kaliyah, who had been playing during a school inset day, entered the water near Barge House Causeway, close to London City Airport.

Teams from the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, the RNLI and the Coastguard all joined in on an extensive search of the river over the last week and a half.

The missing schoolgirl was named by the Metropolitan Police as Kaliyah Coa.

Barge House Causeway is a concrete slope that goes directly into the River Thames and is used to transport boats.

Residents pointed out that it appeared to be covered in moss and looked slippery.

A spokesman for the force added that Kaliyah’s family asked for their privacy to be respected at this time.
