A BMW was left in tatters after a horror drink-driving crash on the M6 on Sunday (April 6). Police and paramedics raced to the scene on the motorway close to J33 following reports of a collision.

The silver vehicle, which was the only car involved, spun and was seen badly damaged on a grass verge at the side of the southbound carriageway.

Lancashire Police said the picture taken was ‘the result of drink driving from a collision’ on the M6 on Sunday afternoon. No serious injuries were reported.

However the driver provided a roadside breath sample of over three times the legal alcohol limit, the force added, and was arrested at the scene.

There were some minor delays on the M6 southbound between junction 33 and 32 for a short while following the crash which later eased throughout the afternoon.

“Fortunately no serious injuries and no other vehicles involved. Although, the driver provided a roadside breath sample more than 3x legal alcohol limit.”
