Kai Widdrington has vowed to make a change as his ‘fight’ was supported by fans. The Strictly Come Dancing star has teamed up with his former dance partner Angela Rippon on her dancing mission.

Her Let’s Dance campaign aims to inspire the UK to “embrace dance as a way to improve their health, connect with others, and have fun.”

Kai himself, who comes from a sporting family with his father Tommy managing National League football team Aldershot Town, for whom his brother also plays for, is pushing to see more dance schools opened around the UK and wants to bring the sport back onto the school curriculum!.

Speaking to Angela and Stephen Dixon on GB News, the dancer said: ” I’m so keen because not everybody has a dad that could afford lessons. You know, I’m not a kid that every dad had a Premier League dad who paid for lessons.

“So for kids that can’t afford it, why not just give them the opportunity to learn to dance? We live in a world today where we’re on the phones, we’re on TikTok, kids are learning to dance anyway, so why not regulate it and let them learn it in school for free?”

Kai has now shared a clip of his comments on Instagram and said: “I am fighting hard to bring dancing back to our school curriculum! The benefits are countless: not only does it improve learning outcomes, but it also boosts mental health by reducing anxiety and depression.”

He added in a plea: “Join me and Let’s Dance in making a positive change—together, we can celebrate movement and joy in education! #DanceInSchool #MentalHealthMatters #LetsDance #HealthBenefits #DanceRevolution.”

His followers were soon sharing their responses in the comments section. @romance_in_roses said; “Love this!! This would be amazing for so many students!” @nathanpain2000 commented: “@kaiwidd absolutely well said, we are so proud of you and remember, you should always keeep dancing.”

@wengre1960 shared: “Good luck with this project. I am sure there are lots of children who would love to learn to dance.” @clarebear1806 replied: “This is amazing Kai. I absolutely support you on this. What you are doing is amazing. Well done.” @_likenobodyswatching added: “Yes yes yes! 100%.”

Kai was also on the news how to talk about his new dance tour, Evolution, and told how he hoped the headline tour, which takes place throughout May and June, would help fans “get to know me”.

“I want to chat to the audience. I want to have moments with them,” he said on GB News’ Breakfast show. “I want to take them on a bit of an emotional roller coaster and make them laugh, make them cry, have a few serious moments, have a few funny moments, maybe have some audience participation, and ultimately just have a great night.”

Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Kai will be returning to the Strictly ballroom later this year after the BBC announced it professional line-up earlier this month.

Joining Kai back on the dancefloor for series 23 of the hit dance show are Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Katya Jones, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola.

The BBC also revealed last week that two brand new professional dancers will also be joining the lin-up, with the new pros set to be revealed closer to the return of the show.

After the news was confirmed, Kai shared a message on Instagram which read: “Thrilled to announce that I’m back on @bbcstrictly for my 5th season this year.

“Can’t wait to hit the dance floor again and create more unforgettable moments with the Strictly family! Let the adventure begin! Keeeeep dancing #StrictlyComeDancing #BackAtIt.”
