Dianne Buswell has made an emotional admission about being away from her family, with the Strictly Come Dancing star saying it gets ‘harder the older she gets’.
The dancer hails from Bunbury in Western Australia but she moved to the UK when she joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, leaving her family back home to follow more of her dancing dreams.
Fans of the hit dance show will probably recall the emotional scenes in the ballroom last year when Dianne’s parents, Mark and Rina, were able to visit the UK and watch their daughter perform live in the BBC One dance contest as she competed with Chris McCausland.
The pro dancer and the comedian didn’t set their sights on Blackpool but to the weeks after when it was guaranteed that Mark and Rina would be able to watch Dianne live for themselves on Strictly for the first time since she joined the show.
And it was everything Dianne – and viewers – had hoped for. To top things off, Mark and Rina got to watch Dianne and Chris lift the Glitterball trophy when they were announced as the Strictly 2024 champions back in December.
Dianne has since had quite a bittersweet trip back home to see her family, with her sharing the heartbreaking loss of her beloved Nan before sharing how her dad has been unwell and in the hospital.
At the time, Dianne took to Instagram and shared a photo of herself with her day, who was laying alongside her in a hospital bed. “My dad my super hero,” Dianne captioned the post.
She then later shared more details about her dad’s ill health, revealing he ended up having open heart surgery after regular check-ups following a previous cancer diagnosis flagged concerns with his heart, leading to emergency surgery.
And being away from her loved ones is an emotional subject. Over the Easter weekend, Dianne reshared a post from her brother, Andrew, which featured a picture of her parents with their grandchildren.
Alongside the post on her Instagram Story, she shared a face holding back tears emoji and red heart icon before writing: “Really miss them all so much. The older I get, the harder it is to be so far away from my beautiful family.”
Dianne later tried to see the positives as she enjoyed a FaceTime call with her fellow Buswells and told her social media followers: “So grateful for video calls [heart emoji]. Happy Easter Everybody.”
It comes after Dianne responded to Strictly co-star Johannes Radebe’s update as he returned back to the UK from a visit to his family in South Africa.
In one update on Instagram as he appeared to enjoy a safari, Johannes told his followers: “Nature is not a place to visit. It is home. #krugernationalpark.”
He later confirmed his trip has come to an end and alongside a sweet video and picture of him with his family, he said on Instagram: “Saying goodbye to home is tough, but the rewards of pursuing your career dreams are worth every moment.”
Dianne was among those to respond and first wrote in the comments section: “[red heart emoji] Beautiful,” before the she then wrote in a separate comment: “It never gets easier does it. Sending all my love.”
