Dianne Buswell was left emotional as a comment she made years ago resurfaced and made her realise what she was speaking about at the time had ‘come true’.

The Strictly Come Dancing star had a fabulous end to 2024 when she was crowned the champion of the hit dance show’s 2024 alongside celebrity dance partner Chris McCausland.

The pair made history on the hit dance show by lifting the Glitterball trophy at the end of the BBC One dance contest’s latest series back in December.

They beat off stiff competition from their fellow 2024 finalists, Miranda actress Sarah Hadland and partner Vito Coppola, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and dancer Aljaz Skorjanec, and JLS singer JB Gill and partner Lauren Oakley, to be crowned the champions of Strictly’s 20th-anniversary series.

While their dancing journey quickly came to an end, with Chris unable to commit to the Strictly Come Dancing Live tour alongside Dianne at the start of the year, the duo haven’t kept too far apart as they launched their own podcast.

But there was also some exciting news last month that has reunited the pair. It was revealed that Chris and Dianne are among the nominees for the Bafta P&O Cruises Memorable Moment award.

The award is voted on by the public and aims to celebrate the most impactful parts of the year’s television. The Strictly winners are nominated for their performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone, which saw Dianne leave the ballroom floor so her partner could dance on his own before she returned to spinning in his arms moments later in tear-jerking scenes.

Also among the six scenes nominated is the moment Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith (James Corden) asked for Mick Shipman’s (Larry Lamb) opinion before deciding not to marry Sonia at the alter, in the final episode of BBC sitcom Gavin And Stacey, which aired on Christmas Day 2024.

Now, Dianne has admitted her tears as she recalled attending the BAFTAs previously with boyfriend Joe Sugg and was asked whether she was nominated by a makeup artist who was helping her get ready for the star-studded event.

Sharing a video that featured the moment, as well as sharing the performance that has got her and Chris nominated for the gong, Dianne wrote on Instagram; “A few years ago Joe and I were invited to go watch the BAFTAs!

“My makeup lady asked if I was a nominee I remember thinking it would be so Amazing if I actually was ! Fast forward to now and it’s come true.”

She went on to share: “Team there’s only a few days left to vote for this special moment . I watched it again just now and yes tears streamed down my face especially when Chris says thank you at the end.

“It truly was such a special moment. If you loved it too I’ll leave the vote link in my stories. Thank you all so much @bbcstrictly @chrismccauslandcomedy.”

Former Strictly winner Stacey Dooley replied: “Incredible.” Dianne’s fellow Strictly pro Nancy Xu cheered: “Letsss gooooo girllll!” as Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse echoed: “Let’s go.” West End star Marisha Wallace also gushed: “So deserved.”
